In collaboration with Manty Ellis, the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts is staging the first ever Jazz Now Awards for support of jazz in Milwaukee. It’s time we recognized some of the people who’ve kept the flame burning over the past years, sometimes when it seemed that jazz was on the verge of extinction, with few venues for the many talented players in the area. Come and hear some great music from Manty and band plus other surprise guests, hear some comments from two seminal individuals working on very different approaches to documenting Milwaukee’s jazz history, and help to support one of the surviving great space’s, the original Jazz Gallery, now a non-profit community art center presenting visual art and a mix of challenging cutting edge music.
